What effect would taking Vicodin, Ambien, Wellbutrin, and drinking alcohol have?
I don’t think there is a precedence [sic] for this combination but I’m pretty sure you would either die or end up in a coma and wake up in the hospital. I took 150mg Wellbutrin at 5:00 in the morning, had three drinks at about 7:00 in the afternoon, and then took an Ambien at 9:00 at night and went to sleep easily and comfortably. I woke up at 7:00 the next morning in the hospital hooked up to an extremely painful catheter, an IV, and breathing tubes inserted in my nose. I can’t explain how disorienting this was and the state of panic it put me in. Later in the day my friends told me they took me to the hospital at about 1:00 in the morning. Apparently I woke up after I took the Ambien, inexplicably took about 20 more Ambien tablets and then poured all of my Wellbutrin into the heater vent, drove to the store about 4 miles away where I caused minor damage ($1000) to my car, urinated on myself, brandished a loaded weapon in the house and outside, video taped imaginary “ghosts” and “tiny men” for almost an hour straight and then fell unconscious and stopped breathing at which point I was taken to the emergency room. I don’t remember any of this whatsoever. I do, however, have the recordings of the ghosts and tiny men I insisted that I saw, and I am completely dumbfounded and cannot explain how this happened.
Don’t combine those three drugs, and surely don’t add Vicodin into the mix. You will not enjoy the results.

Were you trying to channel Elvis?
I’m a life long insomniac. I have been having the blackouts too often because of this exact cocktail (But only difference is I was on 400 mg of Wellbutrin, had three glasses of rum and tonic and topped it off with 300 mgs of dyphenhydramine). I am aware it needs to stop because I I’ve been doing it at least two times a month, I’m stopping Ambien as of this day. Apparently last night my wife told me that she was going to kill me if I don’t go back to bed and get to sleep. I then I told her she can’t kill me because I’m invincible. Also I mentioned something about the brothers Reese, Kyle and Derek last night. They are characters from the Terminator franchise. I also repeatly bumped into the wall as I was putting on pants to go out and she had to stop me at least 3 to 5 times last night. She can’t attend her prior engagements because of me keeping her up all night. I don’t remember a damned thing about what happened and that does worry me so I need to stop now. The question is, Will I? I don’t know. Will I stop taking Ambien? Yes. Because taking it alone does me no good and mixing it with alcohol and Wellbutrin makes me unconsciously do stupid shiet, like singing “Eye of the Tiger” outloud on the couch all night on my iPod and yes this actually happened. My doctor recently Rx’d me a last ditch effort to help me sleep and I am to pick it up tonight but I don’t think it will help. It’s in the same family as Ambien. Back to dyphenhydramine and two glasses of rum and tonic I suppose. At least that puts me out and kept in bed.
I too share your insomnia problem. I have tried all sorts of sleep aids and combinations thereof over the last 25 years, although I’ve never taken Ambien.
After many years of trying this and that, I finally settled on an 8-oz glass of warm milk (1.5 minutes in the microwave) and 2-3 Tylenol PMs. If I take this combination and lie down immediately, I usually fall asleep within 20 minutes and sleep like a baby. It’s a simply but effective solution for me.
I sometimes have the added problem of pain due to my military disabilities and sometimes take a few 30mg codeine tabs instead of the Tylenol PMs. They aren’t good for you anyway. The codeine helps stop pain from interrupting my sleep.
In the worst case scenario where I cannot sleep, I take 2 .5mg of Xanax. That always does the trick too.
I never mix booze with any of this stuff. Booze tends to wake me up after it wears off and I can’t seem to get back to sleep. Too much booze can be the root cause of insomnia.
Remember, KISS (keep it simple stupid).
I’m positive the hallucinations are from the Ambien and alcohol. I too had a few drinks one night, took my ambien, and laid down to watch a movie in bed. My fiance said I kept looking at the corner of our room and asking why a crowd of people were in there. I told him a man was staring at me and to make him go away. There wasn’t anyone in our room obviously but the alcohol and Ambien combo made me hallucinate. Another night I did the same thing without thinking and ended up being intimate with him “pornstar style” and didn’t remember a thing, he definately remembers it though. I flushed them down the toilet after that.
